For 20 years I Was a King have been a warm beating
heart in Norwegian music scene, reliable suppliers of
perfect pop and sonic happiness.
Led by Anne Lise Frøkedal, Frode Strømstad and Ole
Reidar Gudmestad they have come with infectious melodic strength and rich harmonies. The formula has been a classic four piece approach to the music.
Through the years they have have worked with a wide range of other musicians, collaborators and friends including Sufjan Stevens, Gary Olson (The Ladybug Transistor), Emil Nikolaisen (Serena Maneesh), Robyn Hitchcock, Norman Blake (Teenage Fanclub) and many others.
They have toured several times in the US and all over Europe, and
received grammy nominations in Norway.
Their latest album “Until The End”, brought them to West Kirby, a beautiful coastal town outside Liverpool to work with producer and artist Bill Ryder-Jones in his Yawn Studios.
Available for summer festivals 2027 and club shows fall 2027
